in Nepal it is the year 2069. i was born २०३८ फागुन २५ सोमबार (fact). in this month, which is drawing to a close, the women of Nepal cover their wrists in thick, beautiful glass bracelet rings and they wear them for the entire month. it is to welcome the changing of seasons as the heavy monsoon rainfall slowly changes the trees into a deep green that compliments the sky deliciously. its a wonderful time to be here and to feel that surge of natural energy when you get caught in the rain. it is almost as if the sky is a giant wet towel wringing itself out after soaking up millions of liters of humid vapor from far far away. it amazes me. sometimes after it rains, when there is that post-downpour period of things dripping from above, things here never seem to stop making music. the tin rooftop pings like a drum and in the distance you can hear music from someone's home blending in with the natural symphony.
it makes your eyes sink lowly. people have that sleepy smile here (for various reasons) and greetings in passing seem to last for hours, its actually insulting to someone you have befriended to not stop and share a few minutes together or a cup of tea. i like that. i like the community i have been getting to know so well. i've met some really wonderful people who have lived in this part of central Nepal for their entire lives and its actually unnerving to think i will one day be leaving these people. we've become friends. we've been parts of the same stories together and one day they will be reflections from the back window of a bus.
its better that way. we share a mutual respect and acknowledgement of the extremely difficult odds that were broken in order for us to find each other. and we go.
